Struggle. We all struggle at times but learning how to overcome struggle can be one of the most important skills that you can have. Struggle is defined as “strive to achieve or attain something in the face of difficulty or resistance” or “have difficulty handling or coping with,” as well as “make one’s way with difficulty.” Physical and mental issues are struggles for sure, but sometimes we simply struggle with achieving success with our goals – we feel as if we are walking into the water, but fighting with the waves. Why do we continue to struggle with goals we made 1, 3, or even 10 years ago?
Your State of Being Matters
How you go through the day and run your life, your year, and your relationships starts in your mind. Many of us get caught up in doubt and the waiting for things to just happen. You are stuck in the trap of just responding and reacting to things happening around you, much like being in a sailboat and being under the control of the wind. You must take control of your vibe and fight against doubt and procrastination. How? By changing your mindset.
Do you see a problem as an opportunity or a challenge? To move forward, you must see these obstacles as learning opportunities, rather than stop signs. Check in with yourself to see what is controlling you. Is it panic? Anxiety? Worry? If that is what is controlling you, you cannot create your dream. Focus on what is going through your mind and if it is not serving you, change it.
You Must Make a Decision
To move forward, you must make the decision to move forward. Indecision leaves you in limbo. You may think you are playing it safe, but this is just fear holding you back from progress. Before you know it, you are years down the line and still have not achieved that dream. Everything doesn’t need to be in place before you act. Act and then let everything move into place. Watch doors open for you.
I have had to learn this myself when I began my coaching business. I was certified as a trainer and was speaking, but I didn’t let anyone know in my corporate job. I was keeping it to myself in case it didn’t work out. I didn’t want to be embarrassed if I wasn’t successful. Once I decided that I was a speaker, I began to see doors open, such as with my TEDx talk in New York City. After I spoke, doors started opening – all because I had finally made a decision.
Be Open to the Evidence Around You
You must see yourself as having met that goal or achieved success. See yourself working or doing what you have dreamed of. Feel yourself in it. Visualize what your life will look like. Keep your eyes open for opportunities and see them as evidence that you are doing exactly what you are supposed to do. Write down these nudges and opportunities down as evidence. This helps to train your eye and mind to be open to the possibilities that come into your life, so you can act on them.
Quit struggling in 2020 with the goals you made years ago. By changing your mindset, making a decision, and being open to those nudges and opportunities to move you forward, you can finally reach that goal and find the success you have been dreaming of.
